DAY 1: MARRAKECH – HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS – OUKAIMEDEN

1-Day Birding Tour Embark on an unforgettable birding tour from Marrakech as we welcome you at your hotel or pick you up from the local Marrakech airport (Accommodation the day before the birding tour is available upon request – please contact us). Our journey begins with a scenic drive up to the High Atlas Mountains, where you’ll experience the beauty of the region. During the comfortable ride, keep an eye out for resident species such as the Moroccan Magpie, Moussier’s Redstart. Southern Grey Shrike, Little Owl, Sardinian Warbler, and House Bunting. As we navigate the rocky slopes. we’ll have the chance to spot the stunning Blue Rock Thrush and the elusive Levaillant’s Green Woodpecker. Once we reach the renowned Moroccan ski resort of Oukaimeden, prepare to be amazed by sightings of the magnificent Crimson-winged Finch, as well as Rock Sparrow, Alpine Chough, and Atlas Horned Lark.

In the afternoon, you’ll have more time to explore the natural beauty of the Oukaimden region, with additional birding stops and hikes. Depending on your interests and the time available, you may head further up into the mountains or visit other valleys and meadows in the area.

After a fulfilling day of birdwatching, you’ll begin your descent back toward Marrakesh. The return journey offers one last chance to spot birds along the way. Raptors like the Golden Eagle or Lammergeier may still be seen soaring over the mountain ridges, while smaller passerines and waterfowl can be found in the lower valleys.

As you approach Marrakesh, the sun will begin to set over the Atlas Mountains, casting a warm golden light on the landscape. It’s the perfect way to end a day full of birding excitement, reflection, and a deeper connection to Morocco’s diverse ecosystems.

You will arrive back in Marrakesh in the early evening, where your driver or guide will drop you off at your hotel or riad.
